Aurora Over Auchterhouse by Greg-McKinnon Aurora Over Auchterhouse by Greg-McKinnon
The tail-end of a very strong doubled ark Aurora that hit Scotland last night. I was in bed when I noticed the levels were so high so I just headed to a spot up the road that I shoot quite often. I find repeatedly shooting a location seems to pay off, and it helped me this time already knowing the kind of composition I could use.

Anyway as with the last time I wasn't out for the peak but it was still amazing, first time Ive seen the flares dance around the sky. I'll be more prepaired from now on :P

Thanks a lot :P

Luck is exactly it, it only lasted for 10 minutes so I'm glad I got out, just have to keep alert! The levels are actually a bit hopeful for tonight. Give this group a go if your looking to catch it some time, only reason I ever have! :)

This is suppose to be one of the best years yet for it in Scotland, so you've got plenty of time! :)

The best I can do is next October, possibly April. I'm doing a cycling trip around Skye and Uist next summer but I'm not sure how strong it would be if its even still happening then. I did read somewhere that the peak is supposed to last through 2013 though :D let hope so!

I usually say that every time I see these shots from Scotland but I suppose I was lucky this time! :) Don't know what the cloud cover is like for you guys but I think it's suppose to be out tonight. I'm guessing you've got the same miserable rain as me though :P

A lot of the colour comes through on the exposure but it was still great to see!

It's the flares you notice the most. The exposure does a lot of the work, but when you see it there's no mistaking it!
